What is Ultherapy?
High-intensity focused ultrasound is a non-invasive therapeutic technique that uses non-ionizing ultrasonic waves to heat or ablate tissue. HIFU can be used to increase the flow of blood or lymph or to destroy tissue, such as tumors, via thermal and mechanical mechanisms.

Ultherapy works because it triggers the creation of new collagen by inflicting thermal injury. "Collagen rebuilds itself and continues to grow for about three months and then it plateaus off," he says. "Some people might not see the results right away, but by two to three months you should see full results.

On average, the results of treatment last two years. People who receive this treatment later in life tend to have results that fade faster because their collagen and elastin tend to be extremely weak. An unhealthy lifestyle can also lead to less-than-durable results.
